Xesc Menzl (세스크멘슬) — The Charcuterie Where Sung Si-kyung Raved About the Sausages

This German-style charcuterie appeared on Sung Si-kyung’s Eat What You Want. The reviews tell an amusing story: instead of first-timers saying they came after watching the show, you are more likely to find regulars sighing that their old favorite has become even busier since the episode aired.
Start with the Bokki platter (보끼). Designed for two, it combines house-made ham, burrata, and baguette, and visitor after visitor calls it the standard first order. The surprise contender is the currywurst (커리부어스트)—some diners even liked it more than the main dish. Corkage is free for the first bottle of wine, so bring one along. From the second bottle, it costs ₩30,000 per bottle.
For dinner, book ahead through Catchtable with a ₩20,000 deposit per person. Walk-ins must put their names on the handwritten list outside, and there is no remote queue. A line starts forming around 7 p.m., and reservations can push walk-ins into a long wait. One visitor in March waited an hour behind five parties even at 4 p.m. At dinner, remember that every table must order at least one main, one side, and one alcoholic drink.
The menu centers on platters, and plenty of diners say it is not filling enough for a full meal. If you want to leave satisfied, choose somewhere for a second round before you go. Tables are tightly spaced, and there is no parking. Come for a date, a gathering of three or four, or daytime drinks on the terrace.
The four-sausage selection (소시지 4종) shown in the video at ₩33,000 is no longer on the menu. It has been replaced by three-sausage and five-sausage selections (3종 and 5종) at ₩28,000 and ₩38,000. The smoke salmon (스모크살몬) is also gone; the only standalone salmon dish now is smoked salmon (훈제연어) at ₩24,000.
| Menu | Price |
|---|---|
| Bokki for two, assorted cold cuts (보끼 2인·모듬 콜드컷) | ₩35,000 |
| Bokki for four (보끼 4인) | ₩55,000 |
| Maili, three selections (마일리 3종) | ₩28,000 |
| Maili, five selections (마일리 5종) | ₩38,000 |
| Currywurst (커리부어스트) | ₩18,000 |
| Smoked salmon (훈제연어) | ₩24,000 |
| Assorted deli meats (델리모듬) | ₩14,000 |
| Ragù pasta (라구파스타) | ₩22,000 |
| Jamón croquetas (하몽크로케타) | ₩10,000 |
Kazoku (가조쿠) — Pak Se-ri’s Soba Spot: Start with the Shrimp Tempura

Lee Young-ja and Pak Se-ri visited this soba restaurant on What’s the Point of Leaving Food? Every morning, the kitchen grinds buckwheat using a millstone imported from Japan and makes the noodles fresh.
Start with the shrimp tempura soba (에비텐소바). It costs just ₩1,000 more than the chilled dipping soba (자루소바) and comes with shrimp tempura, so reviews repeatedly say there is no reason to hesitate. It is also the most frequently ordered dish. Add fried tofu sushi (유부초밥) and an onsen egg (온천계란) for the unofficial house combination—some diners even regretted skipping them. The tempura is fried to order, prompting people to call this “secretly a tempura restaurant.” Pak Se-ri’s choice, herring soba (니싱소바) at ₩18,000, gets mixed reviews. Some find it underwhelming for the price, so there is no need to gamble on it during your first visit.
Most diners find the flavors light and clean, but the same qualities can read as bland and unremarkable to others. If you want bold, punchy soba, adjust your expectations.
There are no reservations, but the line moves quickly. Lunchtime waits are usually around 15–20 minutes. In the evening, however, ingredients often sell out before closing, so go during the day to avoid a wasted trip. A bowl of noodles alone is fairly light, so add a side. Counter seats make solo dining easy. There is no parking, so use a public parking lot.
The chicken tempura (토리텐) and green tangerine soba (청귤소바) were added after the episode aired.
| Menu | Price |
|---|---|
| Herring soba (니싱소바) | ₩18,000 |
| Shrimp tempura soba, hot or cold (에비텐소바·온·냉) | ₩12,000 |
| Kazoku soba (가조쿠소바) | ₩11,000 |
| Fried tofu soba (키츠네소바) | ₩11,000 |
| Tempura-flake soba (타누키소바) | ₩13,000 |
| Chilled dipping soba (자루소바) | ₩11,000 |
| Tempura, 3 shrimp and 6 kinds of vegetables (덴푸라·새우 3·야채 6종) | ₩17,000 |
| Chicken tempura (토리텐) | ₩16,000 |
| Green tangerine soba, summer only (청귤소바·여름 한정) | ₩13,000 |
Bongpyeong Memil Myeon Samuso (봉평메밀면사무소) — Kim Na-young’s Regular Buckwheat Noodle Spot

Kim Na-young called this buckwheat noodle restaurant one of her regular spots right in the video title. It is close to Exit 7 of Ttukseom Station, but the restaurant is on the second floor. It is easy to walk past after seeing only the ground-floor signs, so look up if you cannot find it.
The standard order is the Bongpyeong set (봉평셋트), which adds ₩3,000 to the price of buckwheat noodles (막국수). It comes with four potato dumplings (감자만두), and the dumplings earn such overwhelming praise that reviewers call them “the reason you have to order the set.” Even diners disappointed by the main dish still recommend them. For two people, order one chilled buckwheat noodle soup (물막국수) and one perilla-oil buckwheat noodle dish (들기름막국수), then share. This pairing comes up again and again. If you prefer a stronger sauce, choose the pollock sashimi buckwheat noodles (명태회막국수). The broth is not a mild radish-water kimchi style; it comes with a bold, icy sauce, so arrive expecting that.
Portions are generous enough to inspire repeated comparisons to a washbasin, and one verified receipt showed ₩23,000 for two people. For Seongsu, expect good value. The noodles are made after you order, however, so the food can take time. Leave some room in your schedule if lunch is rushed. The menu also changes firmly with the seasons: from April through August, there are no hot noodle dishes such as knife-cut noodles at all. Do not come for knife-cut noodles in summer; in winter, the cold dishes disappear instead.
Several diners were disappointed by the perilla-oil buckwheat noodles, and the side dishes are sparse, so do not expect an elaborate spread. One solo diner was even seated at a four-person table—that is the unpretentious neighborhood-restaurant spirit to come for.
The buckwheat seafood pancake (메밀해물파전) and herbal boiled pork (한방수육) have been removed. They have been replaced by a ₩15,000 buckwheat pancake (메밀전) and boiled pork belly (삼겹수육).
| Menu | Price |
|---|---|
| Buckwheat knife-cut noodles (메밀칼국수) | ₩10,000 |
| Chilled buckwheat noodle soup (물막국수) | ₩10,000 |
| Spicy mixed buckwheat noodles (비빔막국수) | ₩10,000 |
| Pollock sashimi buckwheat noodles (명태회막국수) | ₩12,000 |
| Chilled acorn jelly soup (냉·묵사발) | ₩10,000 |
| Chilled acorn jelly rice (냉·묵밥) | ₩10,000 |
| Bongpyeong set, buckwheat noodles plus 4 potato dumplings (봉평셋트·막국수+감자만두 4개) | ₩13,000 |
| Buckwheat pancake (메밀전) | ₩15,000 |
Simmani Yakcho Baeksuk (심마니약초백숙) — Medicinal-Herb Poultry Soup You Cannot Eat Without Calling Ahead

This restaurant became known through Choiza Road 8, but recent visitors often have another reason for coming: after chefs from Culinary Class Wars 2 introduced it on YouTube, reservations remained difficult for quite a while.
Reservations are accepted by phone only at 02-466-9368. Cooking takes more than an hour, so you cannot simply walk in and eat. Choose your dish when you book. Several reviews say the owner recommends duck over chicken, so reserve the mountain-herb duck soup (산약초 오리백숙). Many diners call the finishing porridge the highlight of the meal.
The side dishes often get mentioned before the main soup. The owner makes all the pastes, pickles, and seasoned greens, inspiring one verdict of “five stars for the duck soup, ten for the side dishes.” The dark-brown broth tastes like a medicinal tonic brewed from herbs and mushrooms without seasoning additives. Some diners found the herbal flavor startling on the first sip, so be ready for a love-it-or-hate-it experience. The owner carves and portions the duck at the table and explains the order in which to eat everything. That hands-on personality also divides opinion.
One bird serves 3–4 people, and that is the ideal group size. Two people will leave food behind, while groups of five or more need to order two birds. Many visitors come for a parent’s birthday or a company dinner; the consensus is that this is not a good fit for solo diners or couples. The floor seating is heated, and the restaurant sits in an alley deep inside the market, so expect to wonder, “Is this really the place?” There is no parking. Leave your car at Seongsu Public Parking Lot and walk. Dining time is limited to 2 hours.
The price of the mountain-herb duck soup is not listed here. Recent visitors report both ₩100,000 and ₩95,000. Confirm the price by phone when you book.
| Menu | Price |
|---|---|
| Mountain-herb chicken soup (산약초 닭백숙) | ₩90,000 |
| Aged-kimchi spicy braised chicken (묵은지 닭도리탕) | ₩70,000 |
